2007 XC90 New Purchase

Post by thudson »

New guy here. I just purchased a 2007 XC90 V8 in immaculate condition. It looks to have about every available option. It has 124k miles on it, new Pirelli's, and runs fantastic.

I'm not new to Volvo's, I used to own an 2001 XC70 that was trouble free. I'm mostly a Jeep guy, but I have teenagers learning to drive and figured I wanted them to be as safe as possible.

This vehicle seems to be meticulously maintained. There were spare filters in the storage compartments in the rear. I purchased it from a dealer who claimed to have bought it directly from the second owner. Carfax does show two owners.

I'm aware of transmission issues with the T6, which was my reasoning for going with the V8. A Volvo mechanic has still suggested I replace transmission fluid every 20k miles. Any other suggestions for keeping this bad boy well maintained?

It drives like a dream. That throaty growl with acceleration is awesome. My wife and I took a long weekend to do a ~400 mile loop known as The Cascade Loop here in Washington and it just ate up the mountain roads, handling everything with authority.

I've having just a few issues:

- While the courtesy lights and rear hatch buttons work on my key fob, the lock/unlock buttons don't. I'm assuming this might just be worn out membrane switches since these typically get used more.

- The rear passenger doors cannot be opened with the inside handles without first unlocking the doors.

The second issue I'm inclined to believe is some child safety mechanism, yet there doesn't seem to be a lever in the door like my XC70 to select this feature. Any ideas.

There is a switch below the radio which turns the child locks on and off
Try changing the battery in your key fob

A full battery reset with key in Pos II can wake up REM and solve some function problems.

Reconnecting battery with key in Pos II usually solves 90% of function issues.

The child lock button as mentioned will allow interior rear handles to work.

Let us know how things go.

I've already changed the battery in the key fob. That's when the lights and rear hatch started working. I'll give the reset a try tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help. The battery reset took care of my problems. I still have the problem that the rear passenger doors can't be opened from the inside if the door is locked. You have to pull the door lock and then it will open. This is not the child feature, I have that turned off. I found a site where someone had a similar issue and it turns out there is a cable running from the handle to the door lock that is prone to pop off. So I going to remove the door panel and have a look.
