98 S70 key fob programming

I purchased a new key fob/ remote (OEM Volvo) for my '98 S70 and wanted to see if there is an easy way to program this without going to the dealer. I read something about turning the ignition on/off 5 times within 10 seconds, but I think that may be for older models. Any ideas? Thanks.

On the '98 it takes a Volvo specific tool and the PIN number for the car. It isn't a huge deal, my local indy charged $35.00 to program a couple of them for me. Fortunately, it isn't one of those things that needs a software download like the '99 and '00 S70s.

Great, thanks. Do I need to take the car in, or can they program it with just the remote ant pin #?

They need the car. With the pin number (which they can easily get) they set the car up to receive the coding from the remote. It is the car that gets programmed rather than the remote keyfob. If you have more than one remote they will need all of them.

Are the fobs on Amazon the right ones? I have been looking at those for purchase.

I bought mine through eeuroparts and it appears to be genuine Volvo.
