2001 v70 smoking and cam oil seal intake side

Post by westdouglas »

Okay... here goes, been awhile since had problems with this v70 have tried to stay on top of things ,but....apparently not. This car has over 240k miles on it. My question is this is there any link to this car smoking(burning oil) and the blown intake cam seal? was my wife's car until lost ALL oil on way to somewhere, there was oil in this car 2 days prior, was starting to smoke when cold but as soon as engine warmed up it wasn't visible to eye or nose, and even this wasn't a constant thing only sporadic / every now and then.Car has had all oil changes at 3,000 mi w/an approved synthetic oil.I have done most all work myself except for r@r trans. and front axle (less than 500miles ago).I am thinking of repairing myself but if the engine is almost shot may as well scrap car or sell to pull apart or something like that.thanks for replies.

One thing I'd look into is the crankcase ventilation to see if it's still providing negative pressure. Either loosening the oil filler cap and seeing how bad it bounces around or doing the rubber glove finger on the dipstick tube method should tell the story.

I've not tried that yet.thanks.I've dome that to diesels before it will tell a lot as diesels don't have a vacuum.just guess at what a gas motor should feel like.

Checked the crankcase pressure by opening the oil fill cap doesn't seem to be any kind of air pressure build up internally. Car still smokes when engine revs up.can't rev motor and feel if any pressure increased internally. If the motor smokes what else is the most likely cause?

Ask your wife to push accelerator gently above 2-2.5k RPM and check vacuum again.
