1998 Volvo s70 t5 water in exhaust

Ok I have a volvo that the head gasket blew and we replaced but since then there has been white smoke in exhaust,smoke in dipstick and some oil has accumulated in top of the engine under the spark plug cover what could be the reason and how could it be tested and fixed

Welcome to the forum, Nick. Unfortunately, white smoke in exhaust is often coolant. Do a compression test on the engine and see if all the cylinders test similar, which would be good news. Smoke from the dipstick is often a stopped up PCV system which could account for oil leaking from the filler gasket or PCV hose atop the engine.

Water in the muffler could be residue from the head-gasket issue getting trapped and condensing in the muffler system. Once you have done the other suggested tests, take the car for a good long run to allow the muffler system to dry out. Also, if you tend to do a lot of short journeys, the muffler system doesn't always get hot enough to expel condensation that forms in the muffler system as it cools.

Sometimes the motor is overheated so bad that it is shot.

Compression test will tell.
