EDIT 96 850 TCV where does short (middle?) hose connect?

Post by JimBee »

I thought this hose is supposed to connect to the airbox but I don't see a nipple there. Where else can it go?

Duh. It was late, dark and cold when I was trying to figure that out with the flex hose off and stored away.
NOW I see it.

It does, after the air filter. There is two nipples, one is for the short hose.

No, it doesn't go to the airbox per se, it goes to the nipple on the fresh air tube from the airbox to the turbo.

Yeah, as I noted above in my edit, I looked for the nipple without the flex hose present. I haven't worked with the turbo system much but I'm learning.

Thanks for the pointers!

I had gone through that without the diagram. I had forgot where the middle connection from the TCV had gone when I was doing the new intake tube, which had a quality nipple in place at the aluminum intake tube.

When I had brought that car home from the sellers house, I had taken everything apart. I knew nothing about the function of that.

I had to stop three times on the way home to swap the other BOV and boost control lines, and put a Zip tie on the underside IEC hose That had blown off, twice.

I was learning.
I had a smoking turbo at the gas station when putting in a few gallons to get the wagon home.

It was going from an over-boost to a stall situation most of the way home.

I had cut it to size, attached it to the TCV and left it on, so I would not forget as I remember adding the blue things.
That didn't let me forget.

The '96 had the TCV as shown. There was a Square one on '97 and after if I recall. I have a couple of each type in storage.

Ahhh, the learning curve. There is a saying that one feature of expertise is having a lot of knowledge about what doesn't work. Those are lessons hard won!

I replaced all the vacuum hoses but haven't started the engine yet. Now I'm wondering if the two from TCV to turbo are on the correct TCV nipples. The nipples still have their color dots. Should the wastegate hose connect to red or yellow dot?
