1999 V70 Need louder turn signal clicker

Post by buffmont »

Anybody know where I can buy a louder turn signal clicker for the 99 V70 , getting harder to hear it as I get older as well as the car.

Also , where is it located on a 99 V70 ?

I'm totally deaf and just got used to watching my dash all the time for flashers, door chimes etc. Occasionally I've screwed up and hit the 4-ways accidentally and now I remember to glance at that too once in a while. One has to train oneself as I went deaf as an adult. You do have to make a conscious effort to get used to it but after a while it becomes second nature. Get used to checking the mirrors a lot too. You might be able to cut some slots in the switch to make it louder but I would experiment with a salvage yard switch. The flasher is integral to the hazard light switch and that is where the clicking sound comes from.

Maybe one could wire an LED higher up on the dash to catch your attention?

My Eurovan left signal doesn't always cancel, so I have trained myself to leave my finger on the stalk as a cancel reminder.

I notice when I used to rent a big fat old guy car like a crown Vic, if you left the signal on after about 30 seconds a chime went off. Talk about knowing your market!

I replaced the electrolytic capacitors inside the hazard switch/turn signal controller and I was surprised to find that the clicking sound was much louder than it had been before. You could try switching them to see if it makes the unit louder. You could also cut slots in the case sides to allow the clicking sound to escape more easily.
Original Nichicon capacitors inside Alps flasher/hazard switch. When I replaced these old ones with new, the clicking sound was much louder than it had been.

Thanks to all for replying. However this is more than I planned. In a past car I just bought the louder clicker and plugged it in for $10 bucks. Apparently with a Volvo it is not that simple.
