1997 960 6cylinder no turbo using excessive oil
I have this 960 I just did a head job on. Running like a top, no codes, but using a quart of oil every 100-200 miles? There are NO leaks, and it does not smoke excessively, a little on idle. The tailpipe is not wet, but the back window gets covered in oil film? PCV? I would think if I had a valve stem seal cocked or a bad oil ring it would be smoking like a freight train. Vapor obviously coming from tailpipe with oily buildup on back window. Hoping I don't have to tear back into this head.
Update! I pulled all the plugs (also to check and make sure their cavities were not full of oil). All plugs nice and dry and tan, perfect combustion. Jacked the car up and it is leaking! Oil was just so clean and not dripping too much. Looks like it is coming from the pcv canister on the side of the block under the manifold. Is there a trick to making sure that is seated properly and would raw oil be leaking from here? I know I broke one of the nipples removing it but glued it back together with plastic weld before I re-installed. Leak is WAAYYY better news than the thought of burning oil.

Replace the oil trap and the seal on the block side. It's a disposable part, and meant to be replaced every so often. FCP has a killer kit for this: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... -960pcvkit
