Hi,
Can someone please give me the procedure for replacing the brake pads on my 2005 XC90. I have replaced many pads on my s70, but the front calipers on the XC90 look different.
Examples would also be great.
Thanks in advance!
Much appreciated!

They don't look too much different on paper, but here goes.
Remove front pads:
1. Remove retaining spring.
2. Remove protective caps (1) from locating pins (2).
3. Remove the locating pins using s 7mm hex socket.
4. Remove the caliper from the holder.
5. Remove the pads.
It is recommended to hang the caliper from the front spring with a steel wire to prevent damage to the brake hose.
Clean and check everything.

To replace is a reverse of the above.
Remove rear pads.
Same as for front pads except the retaining spring has been numbered (3).
Clean and check everything.

Replacing the rear pads.
This is slightly different as the rear pads on the piston side are different on the left and right-hand sides. They are marked with an arrow indicating the direction of the disc and with an L for left and R for right. Otherwise it is a reversal of the above.

Bill.

Hi Bill,
I am able to remove the retaining spring, but I am unable to remove the caliper from the frame. It looks like the frame is preventing me this. On the back of the caliper there are also 4 torx bolts that look like they bolt the top and front to the rear on the caliper. It looks like I need to remove these to allow me to remove the caliper.
Does this make any sense ?

The instructions are from VADIS and you only need to remove the two locating pins, numbered 2 on the diagram. You need to unscrew and completely remove them then the caliper should pull out of the frame.
Under no circumstances remove bolts that hold the caliper together as you will destroy the caliper.

In general...you should inspect your volvo brake pads about every 10,000 miles, and replace them if the material lining of the pad is worn down enough to trigger the pad replacement sensor. In reality, most people don
