1999 s80 misfire no throttle response
The mechanic put the ETM in and says it runs and idles great but it still blows the fuse for the ETM when revving or randomly. He says he has checked the wiring diagram and the wiring itself and there is nothing else on that circuit but the ETM so he thinks there is still some sort of fault in the ETM and wants me to contact BBA for sending it in for another look. He replaced the 10A fuse with a 15A and it runs great and hasn't blown the fuse since.
He says the car has a little smoke coming out the exhaust and an oil smell and a "thump" in the intake so he believes the PCV system is clogged. I believe this may be true, when I removed the ETM to clean it myself it was all gunked up from the PCV. Also, everytime I shut the car off, it would produce a "thump" it sounded like from the intake area. It didn't smoke and burn oil and "thump" constantly before all this started though.
I asked him about all the fault codes for the O2 sensors and he says he cleared them but they returned so there is still something wrong with the car.
To me, with the O2 codes (indicating communication errors and heated O2 circuit problems) and the ETM blowing the fuse, maybe there is a wiring issue but they are apparently on different circuits. If I can just get the car repaired without breaking the bank, I am thinking about selling it and getting out of Volvos before they bleed me dry!

An ETM draws 1.8 amps for the motor flap and board circuit combined so it may be a relay or injector issue (both on the same circuit) or the ETM has an armature short against the windings.

The armature is on the opposite side to the contactless sensor behind the decommissioned 2nd sensor. The magnet is wrapped in aluminium sheath and can swell due to moisture. Once this occurs it rubs against the windings and shorts out.
To test clearances on the armature the 2nd sensor must be removed. This takes a further hour because there are a further 4 pins to grind down and remove. It is an optional procedure and can be a judgement call based on the age of the throttle body and whether the interior looks like it has had corrosion/moisture entry. XeModex always perform this as they remove the throttle shaft to replace the bearings.

Ahhh, okay. I have no idea if BBA Reman did this or not. I have a lifetime warranty on the ETM now that they worked on it so maybe I can give them a call and see if they will do this, or if they already did it (maybe you get what you pay for). Thanks for the info.
Called and BBA wants me to send it back in to them to check it again...
Also, an interesting side note, the Volvo shop tells me that in VIDA my VIN comes up as a 3.0L motor.....

It's not the 2.8 in the non tirbo. It has 2922cc so it's roumded up by certain people. Because it's closer to 2.9 litres most parts dealers call it a 2.9

Went by the shop yesterday to pick up the ETM to send back. He has the entire front side of the motor removed to get to the ports for the PCV. Says the lower port into the oil pan is clogged and they have to remove the oil pan to clean it out....this is gonna be expensive!
