Here is how to increase the memory allocated to the VIDA instance running in the VMware virtual machine (copied from "Getting Started with VMware Player" for Player 6)

Change the Memory Allocation for a Virtual Machine
============================================
You can adjust the amount of memory that is allocated to a virtual machine.
On 64-bit hosts, the maximum amount of memory for each virtual machine is 32GB. On 32-bit hosts, the
maximum amount of memory for each virtual machine is 8GB. The total amount of memory that you can
assign to all virtual machines running on a single host system is limited only by the amount of RAM on the host system.

Prerequisites

Power off the virtual machine.

Procedure
1 Select the virtual machine and select Player > Manage > Virtual Machine Settings.
2 On the Hardware tab, select Memory.
The Memory panel includes information to help you select the appropriate amount of memory for the
virtual machine. The high end of the range is determined by the amount of memory that is allocated to
all running virtual machines.
3 Align the slider with the corresponding icon to change the amount of memory.
The color-coded icons indicate the maximum recommended memory, the recommended memory, and
the guest operating system minimum memory amounts.
4 Click OK to save your changes.
5 Power on the virtual machine to implement the changes.

Thanks for the VMware version, my old Win95 laptop is slower than a 240 Wagon towing a boat on a highway onramp.

Few questions:

1) Is DiCE Hardware independent of VIDA versions, i.e., DiCE provides communication link to vehicle information for VIDA 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 VIDA?
2) Would this 2012B VMWare run alongside 2014 on PC with Windows 7 Ultimate?
3) What version of VIDA reads 1997 850 vehicle information?

Vida is for '99 plus cars only. Most folks use Vol-FCR with serial cable or another generic scanner for early OBDII cars.

All you need is the right VM Ware player for your OS. Go to the VM website and you can probably download a player for a Mac. The image files of Win XP with SP3 should load on virtually any OS.

Dice works with all Vida versions to my knowledge. With later 2013 and above it may be best to update firmware to 5.6.2

I have an opinion on question #1, at least: While the HARDWARE is consistent for all VIDA versions, I believe it needs to be running compatible FIRMWARE for the version of VIDA you've got. There will be a separate DiCE folder included on the source material which should have a correctly matching DiCE driver.

Q#2: I'm not clear on your setup: Do you have a 2014 VIDA version as well as a VMware image with VIDA 2012B installed? (I don't know why you would want both 2014 and 2012B at the same time.) There shouldn't be any interference, except that the firmware needed to utilize the DiCE may be different for the two VIDA versions.

Q#3: I'm surprised! VIDA 2012B lists 1997 850's! AFIK, ALL VIDA versions are cumulative from the start of coverage to the version date: a 2012 version will cover ALL cars up to 2012.

Vida lists early cars such as 240s as it contains all information provided in VADIS as a cumulative resource.

For a Vida/Dice noob like me, is there any benefit for Vida for a 98 and 97? I thought it has the repair manual instructions; but reading this indicates it is only for 99+

It has pre-99 info such as repair and parts manuals. It won't "talk" to pre-99 cars

need a little help please...i've done the following,

1. downloaded and installed vmware, it seems to be running properly
2. downloaded the image files from first post
3. unzipped the image files using 7-zip
4. i now have sub-directory with 13.9 gigs of files
5. when i run vmware, i get an error indicating that win xp pro os is not installed, it asks for a disk or iso image file

not sure where to go from here. any guidance is much appreciated.

i was able to launch vmware running the xp os by clicking on the "virtual machine configuration" file in the unzipped sub-directory. i now get an error when launching vida on the vm. ie starts and goes to this address http://localhost.vida.com. ie cannot connect so vida does not start, thoughts?
