our S80 has a pretty bad FM reception (you can listen to the strongest signals with some noise here and there, weaker signals and it turns more into noise-only).
The guy at the Volvo shop told us it's due to a broken antenna which is supposed to be in the rear window and the solution would be to swap out the rear window - 500€ for the window, probably another 500€ for labor.
Now I think we could just use an aftermarket antenna (perhaps this one? possibly with some adapters?) which could be significantly cheaper.
The questions are...
- is it true that there's just one FM antenna that is located in the rear window? (or are there 2 for diversity like in older s80s?)
- [based on my research] I think there should be an antenna amplifier somewhere in the back, probably on the drivers side. If yes, what's the easiest (preferrably non-destructive
- is it even possible to solve it that easily? Assuming it is actually the antenna and not the wiring to the back/connectors at the radio...
Any insight is very appreciated!
Simon
