98 T5 Rear ABS sensor connector

Post by mecheng »

Has anyone removed the wires from a rear abs sensor connector. It looks like it is possible but I can't figure it out and don't want to damage it. I think if you push some tab and pull the wire it should pop out but I didn't have any success... yet.

So I don't have to splice into the existing connector. I am only replacing the RR sensor not both.

Even if I was replacing both, if you don't remove the yellow connector you have to drop the tank to fish it into the access port. The yellow connector gets stuck between the tank and the trunk.

It must come apart, I believe... I hope!

Typically there is a small barb on the connector pin that locks it into place and the various manufacturers make pin removal tools. Absent an official tool I have often been able to release the tab with a small, flat head, jeweler's screwdriver.

If you look at the pins on the replacement you can likely identify the barb that you will need to release.

Ozark Lee: yes thats what I thought and I tried with the tiny screwdriver but this thing is a pesky little bugger. I am working with the new sensor. I will try again with some more patience.

I purchased both connectors on ebay for like 20 bucks, dropped my tank just a bit and was able to swap both of them out in about 45min. Instead of messing with the connector...

I got it seperated, there was no real trick just a lot of force. Especially on the OEM Volvo sensor, working like a midget in the trunk. It looks like something would unclick easily, but it doesn't.

I did get the $20 China sensor and guess what, one of the sensors is showing an open circuit LOL. Glad I only need one sensor and I actually checked them. Otherwise they look identical to OEM, but I will ask for a new sensor.
