2002 S60 what to expect?

Post by Ben850 »

I have read enough about the ETB issues, and possible AWD problems.
I may pass the purchase to a friend. I will continue to help him make the car proper for his son.
There are numerous questions.

Honestly, I may keep it and find his kid another car.

Once again, 2002 S-60 2.4T AWD.

Thanks.
-Paul.

Throttle on 2002 is not problematic as it is not an ETM.
2002 S60 AWD is a pretty solid car if maintained by previous owner(s).
Transmission may be an issue but would be resolved by valve body.
Front CV joint on rear driveshaft and connector sleeve for angle gear to trans would be things that would be expected at some point.

How many miles on it? The main issue with 2001-2002 was the transmission. As mentioned, a valve body/T4 servo cover might or might not fix it, if it was driven for a while with the issue. Used transmissions are hard to find.

ABS could be expensive on a 2002 they're not really rebuildable, but you need to pull the code to see what it says

2002 S60AWD has Haldex. I sold one earlier this year after repairing the valve body; was a low mileage example (about 80K miles)

Seller regret.......

I recently got a new transmission in the same 02 awd volvo. I would recommend getting any kind of warranty if offered, I did and it already paid for itself with that one expense.. I had only bought a warranty because of reading online about issues these models may have. I requested a transmission flush before purchase but I believe it was already done, and appeared to be done. Still took a bit out of pocket for a 3300 transmission job at a dealership but.. oh well. As for the rest I like the car, does well in the snow and is pretty slick overall. I havent had to do much else to it other than standard maintenance. Have had it about a year and a half. For stuff I cant do on my own and because of where I live its hard to find cheaper places to take my car, where the people know what they're doing still. If you live in a good area that shouldn't be a problem tho. Besides all of that I would recommend this car.

I suppose I can put this thread on hold for now as the car was bought out from under me last week after already making a deal.
What do you expect from craigslist.

I am picking up another vehicle Saturday, which is known for certain issues in its model and year.

I'll update that in a new thread.

Thanks for the input, I have a 2005 S60 2.5T lined up in the spring, So I'll likely be back.
