96 850 GLT P0442 Code

Post by joe_pinehill »

My 850 has tripped the P0442 code. I've been reading all the post for the code, and if I understand them , its probably a hose leak in the EVAP system. I'm going to spend time in the morning looking for a cracked hose. Many posts point to the J hose on the canister. Any other good places to look, other than following every hose and connection in the EVAP system. Where is the canister on the '96 GLT?

I don't have a lot of time between now and Christmas due to work constraints. If I can't find a quick fix tomorrow, is there any issue with driving the car until the end of December? I'm guessing there is not, and shouldn't be any affect on the catalytic converter or Oxygen sensors? If there is I may have to take it to my local Volvo specialist.
thanks!

It might be a good idea also to check the rubber hoses at the roll over valve near the fuel filter... that's where the damage was on my '97 855 GLT a few years back, though the code I got in that case was 0445 (large leak).
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94

I followed as many lines as I could. The only cracked line I found was one of the lines on the air filter air box. The upper one on the lid of the box. I replaced the elbow with a generic from a mixed pack at the Autozone. I also replaced the Purge Valve, as far as I know its the orignal.
