01 Volvo V70 T5 Wagon - rear view mirror problem

Post by ibwoody2u »

My rearview mirror is dark with the exception of a small strip across the top...which changes daily. I'm guessing that it is in "auto-dim" mode and stuck (mostly)!
Any simple suggestions or do I need to take it to the shop?

Perhaps it is easier to install a regular used mirror, not sure if it's bolt on

The oil that is used for the dimming has leaked out. The mirror houses a control unit on P2's so it can't be removed. There are articles around on how to change the mirror glass with that from a another used mirror from S80/V70/XC70/S60 of that year model with dimming mirror.
Another option would be to get a mirror glass that will fit within the frame of that mirror and adhere it to the mirror. Glass shops can cut mirror but the price can vary widely.
