Looks like side marker light connection.

I'm not sure, but I suspect that it may
be for the auxilary gas heater. I haven't
found a reference in the diagrams, but
it's really the only thing I can come up
with that makes any sense...

I would agree with the side light Matthew, except for the wire color and it's gauge.

Unfortunately, that's not how the two wire
side markers tie into the electrical system.
They connect to the front marker/turn signals.

That, and the pesky issue that the 6 pin connector
in your pic is only present on the passenger side.

It's also worth noting that it's clipped about a foot behind the headlight,
putting it about 3 feet forward of the side markers location. Tough Reach!

Sorry, Matt!

:-D I was judging it by the connector. My 850 didn't have pre-wired sides, so I wasn't sure. Probably shouldn't have opened my mouth ;-).

Last time I looked, it's MATTHEW's Volvo Site. Your house, man.

Connector for the additional alarm siren. Part of the alarm system upgrade, most cars are prewired.

That makes sense - It looks like a connector match, too.
See the adapter for the siren with battery back up on page 4.43:

Completely wrong. No adaptor, that isn't the siren, connector is different.
