1994 850 car won't crank

Post by warrenout »

Pulled car into garage to do some maintenance work. I wanted to move forward just a bit farther and the car won't start. All warning light illuminate and the battery is nearly new (one month old). It has done this before, but then started on the next try. Not sure what is going on.

It might be the PNP switch. Try rowing the shifter back and forth, quickly, a dozen times or so and then try again. You can also try to start it in neutral, sometimes with a flaky PNP it will start in neutral but not in park.

Additionally, check for corrosion of battery cables, in particular where the cable to the starter runs across the subframe. I've had a cable corrode right through i that spot and it wasn't noticeable until you actually physically moved the cable and saw that it was rusted clean through. That fault caused intermittent starting/stalling issues for quite a while before being diagnosed.

Unlock and lock your drivers door with the battery connected. It happened to me once. I hope it is that. :)
