Hi folks, I did a mini search here, but am actually in quite a jam as I really need my car tomorrow. Car was running poorly the last few days, hesitating and doing what could only be described as missin. UI've had the issue before and replaced the bad coil pack and all the plugs. Since I had a little extra this month, I decided to replace the three that I hadn'trrecently done. Now the thing won't start. Could it be a bad coil and how would I test it to find out? Any help quickly would be appreciated. Thanks

If you have an obd reader (or can get one) , plug it in if it throws a code for lets say... cylinder 3 misfire, swap the coil out from another cylinder and see if it throws a misfire code on a different cylinder. Other than all I can say is go over the harnesses make sure nothing is loose and maybe put the old coils in that you replaced and see what happens.

Also is there any chance you mixed up the wires for the coil packs? Sorry if these suggestions are to obvious.

I hope the ignition key was in OFF position while you changing coils.

Like c70_lindsay said...check for connections.Maybe you missed something.

I'm almost certain that it was in the off position, but if not? I am going to do the trial and error thing in the morning, but what are the chances of getting a bad coil? I suppose anything is possible, but is there a way to test? Thank you again.

The coils ground through the mounting bolts, so make sure those are tight.

Ill search for the thread where I made ohmic measurements on the coils on my 1999 and link

Thanks to all you guys, everything's fine, now. Turns out, I'm just a jackass and didn't check the obvious first. Fuel pump fuse blown. Too much time spent looking for zebras when hearing hoofbeats.

There is always a reason for blown fuse. They just don't blow without reason.

Ignition coils, injection system & ecu are getting power via the same relay.Maybe it blows because of messing with coils, but maybe the fuel pump is saying Hello to you.

Thanks, Misha. I'm pretty sure that the blown fuse was from messing with the coils, but I will be doing further diagnostics on the fuel system soon. I'm due to change out the fuel filter and I'll look into how to properly test the pump, as well. And with 265k miles on the car now, I'm pretty sure that there are going to be things popping up from time to time from here on out.
