2002 XC70 Horn blows coutinuously

Post by alex35saab »

Hi everybody ,

We have just arrives in the US few weeks ago (I’m French) : I bought a Volvo for my wife : At date, we have a problem with our XC70 -2002 – 95 000 miles: the horn blows continuously when we pull off the keys of the contact (when the key is on the contact ignition we have no problem) . : the only way to stop it yesterday evening, consists to pull off the relay (FMI 2 - fuse box in the motor area)

I’ve seen that it could due of a contact inside the steering wheel which can fall apart causing the wire to ground leading to the horn blowing continuously (case of Volvo 850).

have you got an idea?

Thank your for your help :D

I am thinking the alarm system, do you get an alarm message? The battery in alarm module should be gone by now and may have leaked on the circuit board. Not sure why it stops with key in. Also check door switches, trunk, hood to make sure they're closed and working.

I checked this week end the door & trunk switches...but they are all operational.
I haven't no message on the ODB.
it's a real mistake! except, if the contactors in the steering wheel are broken :?:

If horn pad is shorted in steering wheel horn will sound with key in as well, but in your case horn stops when key is in ignition. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to reset car modules, then reconnect back.
