I'm at 160k on my 1999 and have never serviced the PCV, but have it on my radar to do soon.
I do think the 1999-on PCV system has an advantage of being warmed by coolant, so it gums up less.
This car also got conventional oil changed every 5000 miles up to 140k, then I switched to synthetic.
I also report I successfully (?) desludged a 1.8 turbo VW engine using a Product from Bell engineering over two years. This was an petroleum distillates additive used right before oil changes, with 10 minutes of idling followed by synthetic.

There is an article about the "marketing" oil change periods where the victim was a Mini Cooper after 62k km (38k miles) and 2 (i.e. two) official oil changes. (just scroll down to the pictures, unfortunately text is in hungarian)

The official change period is 30k km (18k miles)!
The poor guy was refused to get a waranty repair as he did not stopped immediately as the low oil pressure lamp was on...
