Alright you guys. I do not want to accept this "Hiccup" stuff.
Just kidding. I have already experienced it while purchasing my '98 XC.
I was thinking it may be the SAS. I will install some nearly new OEM Bosch O2 sensors shortly, as well as a decent cleansing to the MAF.
Michigan does not care about SAS. Nor do I. I will likely take that out of the equation.
I have several ECUs to chose from in storage. I understand there is a jumper that needs to be soldered.
I was thinking of throwing one of my "R" 628 ECUs in there to see what would happen.
Do not really want to kill the car just yet.
Work in progress.

I don't believe it's the SAS. My mechanic took the SAS out of his car a while ago (98' XC just like mine) and I'm pretty sure it's still doing the hiccup. I will check with him to make sure.
But the SAS delete is on my "to do" list as well. My pump is making a lot of noise and is probably on it's way out.

Congrats, you bought the exact clone of my car. Even the interior color is the same.

If it behaves anything like mine, it will drain you bank account alright. Especially if you want to keep the AWD alive.

Good luck with it! (No sarcasm here, I really mean that)

I have seen a lot of posts on this hic-up lately.
About a month or so ago I changed my radiator, had been leaking for ever. Decided to check the play in the inlet side of the turbo, because I was having oil on the back wind screen. Well it turns out, you need to check the other side for play, from what I was told. Anyway, put everything back together and on it's first ride to work, at the near end of my 50 mile ride the car did the hic-up. Never ever had that done to me until that day. Thought the motor was coming out of the hood. Ran an OBDII on it last week, about a month after the first hic-up, and codes were misfire on all cyl. except number 4 and massive evap leak.
It does the hic-up everyday, at least 3 or four times to and from work. SAS has been deleted a few years back with the diode, so I don't think that is the problem.
I am running on borrowed time with this car and looking for another one.
I figured maybe I bumped something in the replacement of the radiator or messing with the inlet turbo. Anyway just adding to this post with same type problem and looking for a solution.
Shane
PS On a good note, The radiator works great, haven't had to fill it up in over a month. Fix something, something else breaks.

I would say they are more time soakers than cash soakers. German cars are the real cash soakers, I find parts for these cars to be reasonable. No more than a Japanese car. The driving experience and the fact that most of the problems are DIY make up for it.

Of course when I said cash soakers, you know I mean that I personally like to spend money on them.
As far as time, It is also a hobby so it is enjoyable to me these days.

I am not complaining.
The fact is, these cars have brought back my interest in form and function with regard to automotive design.

I had a loose turbo to exhaust flange and the rubber hose to the hard pipe and intercooler blew. The car ran no different after I repaired these. That should tell me something but I am not sure what.
The cat is rotten at the back side and leaks a little, will this cause these codes ? With the high mileage I was just going to JB weld a repair to see if it affected anything.
I would like to post a picture of this gem, quick tutorial anyone ? I have a pic saved to my pictures at this point.
Thanks
