2000 V70 Inner tie rod suggestions please, last digit 5

Post by EstVolvo »

Inner tie rod prices vary a lot, probably quality too.
Any recommendations for a good quality reasonably priced inner tie rod ends for a 2000 V70 with a steering rack code 5?

SMI rack is 5. look thru the FCP site and they have a selection for every price. I used the Myle inner tie rods on a V70 in August. In have been happy with the Myle products and their price.

the trick is go to local dealer and give them your VIN, then they will give you the exact PN for the Inner tierod.

Then use that PN to search.

If Lemforder, TRW is 10/10, then I'd give Meyle a 6/10. Not bad. I have used Meyle product in my previous 1983 BMW 735i, Meyle is OK, but not as good as Lemforder or TRW.

For Inner tierod, Meyle is OK.

Eeuroparts lists the "Karlyn" for the SMI rack, and says "made in France" for $12.25/each. I'd take this. Normally Karlyn parts are made in Taiwan, not France.

I used Lemforder on the inside because they are more difficult to change, but Meyle for the outside TRs because they are decent quality and price.

It says "Made in France" because the SMI rack is made there only to identify it from the "Made in UK" TRW rack. For $12.65 it most probably is made in Taiwan/China; not to say its bad just clearing it up.
All steering components, boots, tie rods are identified by either Made in France or UK.

For example, My steering boot from Swedish Profesional Parts said "Made in France" of course because it was a SMI rack. But it was actually made in Sweden.

+1 to dosbricks, I wouldn't spend one second considering a $12 inner tie rod. The Lemforder for like $35 would be my choice.

Thank you all very much!
I checked the Meyle website and they seemed to be a good quality company. I went with Meyle (bought from FCP). Originally it was $18.95. After I pointed out that it is 45% more than what Autohaus AZ is charging, they lowered the price to $14.95.
