Great advice – thanks again. I had put in the all-wheel-drive again for the Chicago winter but is several have commented, snow tires are much cheaper.

Born in Evanston here.
As far as snows go, this would be the first year I even use them, most likely on my Turbo Wagon front wheel drive.
My '93 Sedan was the winter trooper for the last two years, and did a fine job with all seasons.
My sister still lives in Chicago. Here in the Detroit area we have the same weather a few hours after you do.
Happy Holidays.

Great stuff! The following question might seem ridiculous in light of the low resale value of my old car, but if I take out the drive shaft again how much less will I get for the car since it is technically an all-wheel-drive but that feature will have been removed?

You may get more for doing the purposed buyer a favor.profjmm wrote:Great stuff! That sounds funny, but not far from the truth.
If you have someone genuinely interested in that vehicle, they should/might already know what they are getting.
Well, I did for the most part and have no buyers remorse. Yet.
We'll see how it plays out.

If you are the one that supplied the driveshaft, then you pay to have it removed.
However, if the mechanic supplied the driveshaft, and if found to be defective, then he should remove it w/o charge.

Un-necessary spending is unfortunate, no matter who is found to be at the diagnostic fault.
I am opening a shop. I do not want customers. I would enjoy Genuine patrons. I don't think I will get "Rich",
Hopefully, I may gain a wealth of humanity and smiles.

I don't ask for much?
I would actually like to run an honest shop.
30 years ago, I wrenched at a station in the Detroit area here while in college.
I did not agree with all the tactics.
Not my choice, but learned much.
I am babbling at this point. This rant will get a new thread.

Thanks. Just to clarify, the mechanic ordered and installed the refurbished driveshaft and disposed of the car's original one which was very rusty. It was not a cheap repair. There is a significant hum at 30-40 miles an hour and 60-70 miles an hour, less so in between. It seems to emanate from the middle of the car between the front driver and passenger seat. It sounds like a bearing or almost as if the U joint is rubbing against something.

The more I think about it...
Does anyone want one of these immediately?
PM for price and location.
This is actually a joke.
I don't really want to sell it, I know this is the year for certain issues.
