1998 V70XC emission inspection exempt in PA

Post by 1998v70xcbill »

Just some info for other 1998 Volvos out there in PA. Our cars are basically PA emission exempt, you still have to pay for it. There was a problem with resetting the ready tests on this year. So you're allowed to not have your ready tests set. You still need to have the check engine light out, but you can clear the codes just before inspection. Tell the PA station to put in it's a "2300cc engine". Got this from the Dealer. My station never heard of this and they called the dealer to confirm. Nice not having to worry about emissions for inspection. I still plan on fixing my check engine codes, but now I can do it on my time. I sure there are other states that do this. Please add states that have this or other years.

We had same thing in CT and problem was how you entered "Volvo" in computer. If I remember correctly the computer will take if you enter 1998 Volvo but doesn't work if you enter V70 or V70XC

Wanted to get an up date on this. In pa it works for 1998. What other years does it work for? I will call dealer tomorrow and check for years and states. I know who hard it is to set the ready tests. To get the test to complete, you have to do the flywheel adaptation procedure first. After that is easy.
