G'day, I am having an issue with my S70 that is really doing my head in. It turns over, fires, runs and then stops. It is a 98 model, manual with 185,000 km on it. Has been running really well since I bought it 3 months ago until this week.
It started fine, backed it out of the driveway, parked it, put another car in the driveway, then went to move the S70 into the driveway behind the other car and it wouldn't run. It starts and the revs hit about 1,500 as it always does on start up and then the revs drop back to the usual idle of about 800 rpm and then the motor dies. No amount of throttle will keep it running. If you hit the accelerator as it starts the motor will rev higher (3-4,000 rpm) but will not sustain the higher revs, drops down and dies.
I have done the following:
Checked all fuses
Checked fuel pressure at the rail. It was ok but changed fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator just in case.
Confirmed fuel pump relay is working. Bypassed the relay just in case.
New seals on the fuel injectors.
Plugs and distributor are good - ok colour on plugs and good spark on all 5
Replaced a few vacuum hoses.
Disconnected MAF and no difference
Removed and cleaned oil trap. Cleaned inlet manifold and throttle body while I had it off.
All of this has not fixed the problem or changed the symptom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ff.
1998 S70 starts but won't runs
No codes.
It does run a little longer with some carb/throttle body cleaner it in.

Well, I haven't read the codes yet but no CEL or other indicators suggesting I need to check the codes. Will check the codes and post if I find anything.

Have been trying to read codes but my scanner doesn't want to talk to the S70.
Scanner talks fine to my V40 but comes back with a Link Error when I connect it up to the S70.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions based on the details provided so far?

Mostly because it's a weak link in the fuel system you haven't checked: fuel injection relay?
It would be an odd way for it to fail, but maybe ...

I don't have any bright ideas but is it a turbo or non-turbo?
