Agreed.

You can also just re-seat the old cam seals today and replace them when you do the PCV. Just wipe out the oil in the area and reinstall them, you are right it will be a simple task. That way you can order a quality cam seal (SKF or Corteco).

Pull the dipstick up a few mm and leave it there. If the oil leak stops, then you made the diagnosis.

I wrote the DIY for rear cam seals using SKF seal.

Also search for thread with heater hose PCV mod.
I've actually had the dipstick pulled for a few months and this happened in spite of that ....don't know why. i suspect that it may have started before I pulled the dip stick. Anyhow i already saw your SKF seal DIY and the PCV mod. They are both outstanding and very helpful.

I considered reseating the seals but thought that maybe that might not stop the leaking. I guess I'll try it. I bought volvo seals because nobody in town had either of the brands you mentioned. The volvo seals were expensive ($25 each) but at least I know they're good quality. I don't want to use the new seals until I get the PCV problem fixed.

I ended up just replacing the rear seal on the back side (aft side) of the engine. That seal was almost completely pushed out. It was easy to remove and it was leaking a lot. The forward one on the rear of the engine was just dribbling so I'll leave it for now. We'll see how it goes. I pulled the dipstick about six weeks ago. After Christmas I'll redo the PCV system. I now have oil spots all over my new concrete driveway .... I should have fixed it sooner. Dang it!

I'm planning on doing the PCV heater hose mod sometime early in January. What is usually plugged up? I plan to replace it all ... just curious. Also, the threads that have PCV rebuild for the turbo talked about a valve that is a bottleneck and often plugged up that attaches somewhere around the turbo. Do I have something like that in my non-turbo and if so where is it located?
