1998 V70 AWD - Purchase a 99 S70 AWD Parts Car?

Post by 64deville »

Would it be worth it to purchase a 99 S70 AWD parts car to rob pieces for my '98 V70 AWD? The S70 in question has a brand new rear drive shaft that i could just purchase on its own but am curious if it would be worth it to try and buy the whole car and use it for parts when needed. I'm assuming i could get the whole car for $700 or so.

It seems when i look up the '98 when shopping for parts it often shares more with the later 850's than it does with the 1999-2000 70 series.

"NO" as in there is not enough parts interchangeability or "NO" as in $700 is too much for a 99 S70 AWD parts car?

No, as in there were some significant changes in
the engine, transmission, electronics and drive train
between '98 and '99. This includes the rear drive shaft.

All you be able to use are body, trim and most interior parts, as was said not a lot is interchangeable from a mechanical standpoint.
Engine, transmission, AWD components are different
IF you have a very late build 98, (built, not sold after approx. Late Feb 1998) then the propshaft will work, you need to find out by your VIN.

(It's called a PROPSHAFT, not a rear driveshaft).

I don't think I want a complete parts car for my '98 XC. Acouple years ago it was '94-'96s at the Pick and pull. It seems to be the cycle for the '98s to be showing up at the yards.
A '98 S70 and V70 AWD at Flatrock today, and two new '98 S70s at the Detroit Warren Ave.

There is another XC I could pick up for cheap, but I have four cars in the yard already.

I am getting a MAP code so I grabbed a couple of those. I grabbed a few other little items and a nice set of those stainless Volvo rocker molding pieces from a T5.
Various Evap valves and U-hoses, solenoids...
