1986 240 DL Fuel injector connector issue

Post by mhgreen »

When my car is idling it sometimes begins to run quite rough and shake. If I grab the fuel injector connector (#3) and wiggle it, the engine returns to normal, relatively smooth idle. When I wiggle the connector, the fuel injector itself is also able to turn - should the injector be tight? Should it be able to turn? Is this a connector issue only?

If it is a connector issue, what are my options? Let me also note that the rubber boot around the connector is ripped and the wires are exposed at the base of the connector.

Thank you for your help.

Replacement connectors are available at NAPA among over parts suppliers. The injector o-ring could be leaking vacuum at the intake.

So with the car idling I sprayed some penetrant around each fuel injector and there was no change with the idle. I am not sure if this is an effective test of the o-ring integrity, but it seems that it would be. This would lead me to believe that the o-rings are fine. Thus, the connector would likely be the next culprit, yes? Is there any article or guide on changing out said connector?

If the date is unknown when o-rings were changed out...then do it. And ohm check injectors.

Alright. I'll pick up a fuel injector seal kit from ipd. I don't have an ohmmeter, but I will get one. Is there anything specific I should look for in an ohm?

Figure out which injectors are installed and look up their specifications.

I am getting a zero "0" reading when I test the fuel injectors with the multimeter. It is an analog multimeter, and I zeroed out the Ohms before testing the injectors. All four injectors read zero.

maybe not the correct range on your ohmmeter.

I think I am going to look into acquiring a "new" engine wiring harness. There is a lot of deterioration on mine, and from my research this is a common issue from '85-'88
