2005 S60R What's that hole in the bumper?

Post by mikeamondo »

Okay... stupid question. I'm looking at an 05 S60R that I might get for a decent price and I noticed in the pics that there is a round hole in the bumper under the passenger headlight. On other cars, this is covered with a piece of plastic, and I saw one with some kind of rod sticking out of it with a loop on the end. What the heck is it?

Doesn't it have the headlight wipers?

Sounds like the front tow hook, you can buy the cover, not sure if you can purchase it color matched or not though.

No... it's below the wiper blades and above the fog lights. Here's a pic I posted to my own website... visit this link and have a look see: http://www.theautoexpo.com/vehicle_details.cfm?vehicle_id=68090 This is not the car I'm looking at... but that thing is sticking out of the hole I'm talking about... if you google image search s60r's you'll see a cover over the hole on most cars. My target car is missing the cover so it's just a hole. What is it?

Front tow hook sounds like what it looks like... but shouldn't there be two, one on each side?

That picture shows the tow hook, not sure about one on each side. The rear bumper may have one on one side or the other as well.

Aftermarket tow loop. Horrible look for a sleek looking Volvo.

So... it does appear to be a tow hook... and only on one side. Anyone have any idea how it works? Should be in someone's owners manual.....

http://www.volvocars.com/us/services/ow ... rs-manuals
here's where you can find it. Link to owner's manuals. Tow hook is for emergency moving a broken-down car, not to substitute for a proper tow, but to get out of traffic lane. Or to pull a mildly stuck vehicle out of mud or snow etc..
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
