My plan is to toss the new shaft in the back of the car and hit the road today to begin my 2,000 mile journey to Pittsburgh.
Bad idea.

I doubt you will make it that far but I have one in a parts car around Kansas City but it is in a field and it is colder than a well diggers @ss around here right now.

You can't test the VC by turning the rear wheels with the driveshaft disconnected.
BG has to be in place so the passenger driveshaft can be fitted, additionally it holds the collar which in term seals the gearbox. Repair of this BG is impossible.

I went back to the car and put the rear end in the air and the wheels turn when I turn the shaft. I pulled the shaft and tied the end of the BG against the exhaust so I could drive the car. It seemed to drive ok however there are other issues, as with all of these cars, that I am not going to deal with at this time. I'll dig deep in it when I return from my trip to spend Christmas with our daughter.

Back to the Panther. I'll post a little more info when I have a little time. As for now, I need to "Get Out Of Town"!

This short video is of the rear end situation. With the shaft still attached, I twisted the shaft a little. Do you guys think the VC is in good condition?

I think that looks okay. The slack is probably just the play in the diff. I would change out the BG and drive it. Then you'll know what's going on.

I'm going to order one today. Hopefully it will be the correct one. I assume they have a part number on them somewhere?
