2004 XC90 - Help in Identifying Hose (Pic)

2004 XC90 - Help in Identifying Hose (Pic)

Hi all -

I'm diagnosing a rough idle/stalling issue on my 2004 XC90 T5 - symptoms very similar to a fouled/bad MAF. It started happening quite suddenly two nights ago.

I just replaced my MAF in April of this year so I wouldn't have thought it to be the issue, but I cleaned it anyway (it looked visibly clean).

Then while inspecting hoses, I noticed this hose had come loose:

Can someone identify this hose? Could this be the cause of the symptoms I'm having?

Yes, that is a LARGE vacuum leak! The hose end just above it runs beneath the manifold to the left. I believe that is the hose to your brake booster. Check it for dry-rot, cracking, splits, if good, add a clamp and press on. On second glance it looks smaller than the hose behind it, so it may run to your air cleaner, or MAF. In any case, yes, your likely culprit.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Thanks for your reply, FLX! I've driven about 40 miles since reattaching the hose and so far so good! I'll spend some time tracing where it goes and just inspect all the hoses in line. Since this hose was loose enough to fall off the nipple, it probably is due for replacement!

When you go to get the new hose get auto trans cooler hose in 3/8 inch ID. the fuel/vacuum hose is not as thick walled and will often suck together.
