weyert,
1. I realize that you've probably gotten the answer to your question by now, but I'll post this so others know of a good source of '98 V70 Immobilizer DTC info.
During research of Immobilizer DTCs, I came across this most excellent volvopedia.de German page that lists the 3-digit Volvo error codes (eg, like the IMM-321 style that Vol-FCR uses), along with very useful clickable links explaining what each code means, its probable causes, symptoms, other codes which might be set at the same time, etc.
Fehlercode-Tabelle
I have not yet seen anything else like this on the net.
For those that can not read German, Google Translate and Google Chrome work sufficiently well at translating the Fehlercode-Tabelle page and all its child links -- at least it did for me into English.
2. Most of the tables on that volvopedia.de Fehlercode-Tabelle page seems applicable for many of the '96-'98 850/S70/V70 DTCs that we might be interested in -- not just for Immobilizer DTCs. And I can't emphasize enough how useful those clickable links are for explaining each of the DTCs individually! I got the impression that those explanations were written by mechanics with practical experience.
3. Another page that helped me to understand how the Immobilizer works is the thread which this Polish post is in.
But the more detailed understanding of how all the Immobilizer components works came from reading the translation of all of the individual IMM-nnn DTC explanatory pages that were available from the volvopedia.de Fehlercode-Tabelle page's clickable links.
