Is there a Physical difference Between Geartronic and non Geartronic gearboxes or is the difference only in software and console shifter?

Are you talking about pre 1999 transmissions? Or post 2002 transmissions? They are not easily swapped. Better to rebuild your 1999-2002 transmission than try to swap in another

And if you have either AW55 Aisin tranny have it serviced every 50K miles like Aisin recommends.
