I'm guessing there's a scarcity premium.

The cheapest I found was $600 on the Internet. I'm fairly certain I won't find a machanic to do the swap for $200 and I'm not equipped to take on that large of a job. Plus, my wife would kill me. The hunt is on for a replacement with a sound transmission and 850 LPT I understand.

On a part out you might do pretty well for the engine and trans.

How bad a job is a manual trans drop, plus clutch plate in hours...any guesses?

5 to 7 hours in real time, not much different than a FWD automatic.
As was said, to not install a new clutch would be nuts if you do manage to find a good 5 speed transmission so your $800 is out and it really makes no sense..

There's a compatible manual trans on Ebay right now located in Tennessee for $275 or "best offer". I didn't check shipping or warranty. Comes from a vehicle with 146 k miles. Might be worth investigating.

I need some clarification. Does anyone have a schematic of my transmission, I can't find one online.
Also, the gears that are shot on my car are right at the drive axel into the transmission. Would my car have a angled gear assembly like the xc? Is it a separate part on the manual fwd?
If so, to replace it does that require an entire transmission rebuild?

I can't answer your question. If, however, I were in your shoes, never having attempted a transmission swap, I would opt for a self-performed swap before I hired someone to rebuild the existing unit. I would be very reluctant to tear into my trans and attempt a self-repair,and I would be very much on-the-fence about paying someone else for labor to do the transmission swap.

Check classifieds here on MVS. There was a guy selling a used 5 speed transmission with a cracked casing late last year. Perhaps buy and look into it (literally) so you can see where the diff section is. I would imagine it's pretty much on either end of the output shafts.
