2000 V70 SE -- Specs.

Post by E Showell »

Anybody know the specs. for the above car? It is an automatic. Is the SE a turbo or non-turbo model. I am told it is 4WD, but not a cross-country, does that seem correct? I am also told non-turbo, but I think it is a turbo. Any model experts out there? I did a search on Edmunds, but it wasn't much help. Thanks.

I'm sure someone will come out and correct me on this. From what I can find, there were only 2 2000 V70 SE models offered in 2000. The base SE, FWD and 168hp FWD and a 191hp turbo V70 XC SE AWD.

I know in Canada we did get 97 850 manual turbo AWD, and we had S/V70 AWD as well as the V70XC that I think was only auto. I heve seen a few 98 V70 manual AWD but they are very rare.

Bottom line, don't think the AWD V70 not XC) was cold in the US

From the looks of the following from Google, the SE appears to be only NA:
2000 Volvo V70
Luxury vehicle
Engine size: 2.4L
MPG: Up to 21 city, 29 highway
Horsepower: 168 HP to 261 HP
Curb weight: 3,259 lbs to 3,728 lbs
Other model years: 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002
Configurations
MPG (city / hwy)
Base Manual
21 / 29
Base Automatic
20 / 28
SE Manual
21 / 29
SE Automatic
20 / 28
GLT
19 / 27
XC
18 / 25
XC SE
18 / 25
R
18 / 23

My S70 is a GLT SE, strange that Volvo wouldn't do the same with the wagon.

Non turbo, but fairly loaded
I've never seen a 2000 V70 GLT SE only S70s
To make it more confusing, many SEs do not have SE emblems on them!!!

2000 was a weird year for US Volvos, P2s were coming out in Europe (2001 for the US) so many models were just phased out early.
There are only FOUR (4) V70 T5s (automatics) that were specially imported to the USA for 2000 and very few S70 T5s, under 100!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we did get V70 AWDs. Like an XC without cladding - they have the LPT engine and sit a bit higher than the regular V70 (though I believe lower than the XC), having the same obnoxious setup with the fuel tank and pump. Automatic only.

I was also under the impression SE was more of a trim designation. All the SE models I've seen have wood trim on the dash, console, and shift knob. Plus probably some other goodies.

Turbo and AWD are easy to spot.
Check under the hood for the turbo, intercooler and related piping.
AWD has an exhaust that exits on the right, FWD is on the left.
( Really cool AWD has DUAL pipes! 8) )

Personally owning a base SE 2000 V70, I can tell you it is definitely a N/A engine and is FWD not AWD. It also has wood trim on dash, center console, and shifter but not the wood steering wheel. And if in automatic form it has the 5 speed AW55-50SN tranny

The car you are describing is the 2000 V70 XC SE. The cladding and significantly raised body did not appear until 2001.
