My v70 needs new front struts, but I'm unsure of the type. I've been searching here and elsewhere, but I get conflicting information. Do I need to get electronic struts? How can I verify?

I have never seen the electronic struts for the 850's or 98 to 2000 V/S 70s. I would go the the FCP Groton site and review what they have available for your car. It gives you a great idea of products and cost. Strut prices start at $100.00 for a set from Sweedish car parts up to several hundred for a performance set. Don't forget about spring seats and bearing plates. Get the best you can afford.

The only electronic FRONT struts are for 2004 and up Rs and they are made by Monroe. You could be thinking of Nivomat rears for the AWD models however fronts are just conventional gas/hydraulic or plain hydraulic.

My 2006 XC70 has adjustable front struts made by Munro also.
Front struts are conventional as the guys say for a 1999 V70 XC. I used Sachs/Boge for comfort.

Whew! Well, that's a relief. The straight regular ones are much cheaper, of course.

Follow up question, if I may. Does anyone make a loaded strut that'll fit these cars? I haven't had any luck finding one. I like the idea of getting all new parts when I go to replace the struts.

Apparently Gabriel makes them. There was a discussion about them a couple of weeks ago. My only fear would be the quality of the spring seats.PapaHepcat wrote:Follow up question, if I may. Thanks, Lee. I must've missed that discussion. I'll search for it.

The Gabriel all-in-one struts WILL NOT fit the 98-00 XC models.
A good kit like this should take care of your whole front suspension and steering at once, pretty good deal. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my entire front end using parts from FCP. They've always been good to me.
