So, I have three XC70's with the turbo engine (two 2.4 l, and a 2.5l). All are getting to middle-aged mileages (160K, 220K and 260K). Two are showing signs of turbo wear. My father had a front wheel drive '04 V70, with no turbo, and it was plenty quick and got much better mileage (2 wheel drive, no turbo, no roof rack).
Has any tried removing the turbo on one of these engines? Does anyone sell a conversion kit? Would the various engine control computers function without feedback from the turbo?
Thanks, Please Advise,
Idaho Bob

Electronics are different, compression is lower (ergo: if it could be done it would be MUCH slower) etc

I actually pull the TCV plug when my teens were learning to drive as the HP boost comes on so hard above 2500 rpm. It drove like an economy car, prett much. A couple of times I drove to work forgetting to reconnect and didn't notice, but it's a short highway commute at 50 mph

Example
I had a street rod with a blown (supercharged) small block Chevy 350
I had some trouble with the blower and needed to send it out for repair (and some modifications). Was told in May this would take at least 6 weeks.
I was not going to be without it during prime street rod weather so I bought a cheap 4 barrel manifold and removed the blower and installed the manifold with my carburetor.
It was agonizingly slow because I was running about 8.1 compression because of the blower instead of the proper 9.5+ or so, it felt like a stock 6 cylinder, just no power!

Low compression engines with no turbo or supercharger would probably guzzle fuel and leave carbon deposits on plugs and internals due to incomplete combustion.
