2005 V50 Air bag warning

Post by hcritz »

Hello Folks...
My first post in the V50 section here. Been driving 850s and V70s for a long time.
I just bought a 2005 V50 and when they pulled it off the trailer...the airbag light and warning are on. I'm going to talk to the dealer today....I was told it was all functional and there were no issues.
also the cruise doesn't seem to work ... probably a separate issue.
I did notice that the clock time is off so I'm suspecting that the battery was allowed to go dead and that may have tripped the SRS light? Now I have two questions:
1.What is the correct procedure for disconnecting and reconnecting the batter? No owners manual.
2. I purchased a Chinese VidaDice and I have never been able to use it...the original software disk I got was blank...when I received the new one... I loaded it and hundreds of malware issues popped up...every imaginable popup from porn sights to adds for virus removal. I had to re-image my laptop and I was afraid to plug it into the car for fear of damaging the car computer. Purchased on ebay of course and now the (USA seller by the way) has vanished. It appears the some of you have had good luck with yours...is there anyway to purchase a clean version of the software that actually works?
I have the hardware.
Thanks!
Ed

You are 90% of the way there! This site has a VMware image of the VIDA software for free download. There is one small "gotcha" in installing it: I believe that you need to install the DiCE USB drivers outside of the VMware image. It is good to test your USB comms to the DiCE unit before hooking it up to your car.

I have been happily using such a setup for a year. The first major job I did was tracking down a "SRS Service Required" message. It turned out to be a blown LED on the DIM.

VIDA will have instructions on disconnecting the battery. You will have access to the "workshop manual" part of VIDA even without hooking it to DiCE.

thanks!!!
I'll look for the VMware image here...
I'm thinking that it may have been from the dealer letting the battery go flat...I did get a extended warrantee so hope it's not going to be an issue.

Hey Guys...
a few more bits of Info...
I had the car checked...SRS light couldn't be reset...his scanner is saying that the control module is faulty. I also have an odd issues with the overhead lights...they are not working with the doors. They will come on if you manually turn them on...but behave as if they have a bad ground...Bright if only one is on...dim if you try both...sometimes one will come on bright and the other goes out. Also the cruise won't set...the light comes on when you turn it on though.
Any thoughts if these are related??? a possible electrical connections issue???

Was this a dealer scan? If so, what were the specific flags that VIDA showed? If it isn't a DiCE scan, wait 'till you get your DiCE working and find out the particular codes your car is sending.

OTOH, any time I hear something like "going crazy," I think of battery. At 2005, if it is the original battery, it is well past replacement age. If you sit in the car with the engine off and listen to the radio for 30 minutes, what is the battery voltage?

New battery...
I'm waiting on a copy of windows 7 Professiona so I can load software and use my Dice to do some scanning ... I did find the SRS control unit in the console. I will check out the connectors as it looks as though there has been a few spills from the cup holder into that area. Could be a coffee issue!
Sorting through a bunch of small issues with this car...Hopefully none of them are going to be serious.

You can use the VMware 2012 VIDA image with your DiCE on any operating system that will run VMware. That's the point. The 2012 VIDA covers all Volvo's up to 2012. Since it's an emulator, it is a little slower that a native system, but it works. I moved the actual DiCE files out of the image into my native Win8.1 netbook and established comms to the DiCE unit first before firing up VIDA.

There are a number of critical points that will trigger an SRS fault warning. In my case, it was a single blown LED. It can be a bad plug to an air bag, a bad control unit, or several other things. Once the actual problem is remedied, the DiCE / VIDA can cancel the SRS flag.

Thanks MF70
I will download the 2012 Vida image...
I've done a bunch of work on the car so far...had the seats and carpet out so I've cleaned all the grounds and connectors for everything including the SRS stuff.
I did find the problem with the interior lighting...the headliner was replaced and they ran a screw through on of the wires and shorted it...melted a bit of wiring which had to be replaced. All the wiring is back glued to the headliner like it's supposed to be now. My geartronic is working as well with the replacement of the accordion gear shift cover

I'll try and get the VMware on my laptop today...
Thanks!

SRS module Internal fault code cannot be cleared with Vida.(I mean without SW download)
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

Yeah...I'm afraid I may have a bad module...it's located in a bad place for cup holder spills!
