Re: No Start After Head Gasket Replacement
I reconnected the one ground strap that I removed from the head and the 2 grounds that connect to the coil bolts. I just put 4 more gallons of fuel in it. I can feel the fuel pump relay under the dash clicking. I just cranked it and plugs are wet and smell like gas

Do you know what compression was before replacing HG? You have a large differential between cylinders, I'd look into that first.

I just recently did a successful HG replacement on my 02 s60 w/o any cam locking tool but did carefully mark sprockets, belt and both cams front & back to ensure all went back exactly as it came out! Wondering did you remove either sprocket from the cam and possibly not bolt back on in same position? I suppose if it's cranking normally with no interference, its not possible the cams might be installed incorrectly. Does it immediately try to fire then die upon first crank?

I'm not sure what the compression was before I started taking it apart. It seems like it actually starts for about half a second and then dies out.

Not sure how your timing marks are on sprokets, so I'd look at the slots in the camshafts at opposite end to make sure they're horizontal.

I'm still having a hard start issue after my HG replacement where i have to crank for 5 seconds or more before it starts. It does the immediate sputter then dies if I release key so I just keep cranking. Almost like fuel pressure is down but once its starts, it stays running. I'll post a separate topic for help on this with more details soon.

Did you replace the head bolts? They stretch when you blow a gasket. Also 2 and 3 are considerably lower than the other 3. You might have a warp between those two cylinders and that's where the compression loss isrstewart4328 wrote:Also, here are my compression readings. Considering I don't have any cylinders with no compression I believe that the cam timing is fine. Seems like if any valves were open at the wrong times, it would have no compression.
