i've had a random misfire recently so i am monitoring the operating parameters. i thought i would post them for possible comparison.

parameters pulled from my autel us703, not VIDA DICE. So OBD-II generic.vtl wrote:What is it? Do you have DiCE+VIDA? Did you read the codes (Volvo-specific, not OBD-II)?

When was the last time the plugs were replaced?
How many miles/time are on the 5 coil packs?
Iirc, replacement interval on a P2 for plugs is 30000 miles, but many people defer maintenance until they get, ahem, intermittent misfires.
On edit...60000 mile interval on P2 cars.

Your mixture and combustion are as they should based on fuel trims. No air leaks, clean injectors, good fuel pressure. Good MAF, not sure about load I think it should be lower at idle. Can you do another take at 2500 rpm steady for engine load? It may show a cat in process of getting plugged. Is fuel economy and pick up good?

thanks. i'll rerun at 2500 tomorrow. and post some new numbers. fuel economy seems ok, about 21 mostly around town with some highway. pick ups seems really strong.draser wrote:Your mixture and combustion are as they should based on fuel trims. funny thing though, changing plugs today, did a compression check. cylinder 1 only at about 90 psi wet. cylinders 2-5 were all at 125 give or take a few psi dry. worried i may have a valve issue. hoping maybe some carbon was on the valve seat holding the valve open slightly. going to check again tomorrow.

Definitely need to pursue that. You don't have that many miles and it's hard to understand why you'd have that much carbon in there. How much was it dry? Any valve clearance adjustments lately?

i know, it's got me a bit anxious and hyper-sensitive. my 2000 burned an intake valve at about 175k. did a head job and then the t-belt slipped at 215k, crashing all the exhaust valves into pistons. that car is in my driveway with the head pulled waiting to go to pick-n-pull. i want this '05 to last at least 250k.draser wrote:Definitely need to pursue that. cylinders 2-5 were completely dry and the car was warm, probably not up totally at operating temp. no valve adjustments, with the lifters, i thought there are no adjustments to be had? i'm wondering now if it could be a sticky lifter? haven't noticed any ticking but i will listen again today.
the things pulls hard so it makes me think it running on 5 good "holes". what are thoughts on the mileage, about 21 mostly around town.

Your mileage is about what I get unless I lean hard into it. Not sure yet what's going on with Volvo engine burning valves like that, it used to be that if valve clearance was too tight the valve would not fully close and will burn due to lack of cooling. On the carbon deposit theory, I opened up an engine at about your mileage and found hardly any carbon in the chamber and top of piston. It is true that I used injector cleaner but not overly. It seems there is something particular to these Volvo engines since a lot of people report burned valves. Like you're saying, if you want to hang on to this car and know/like to do some of the work youself I'd consider opening up this one - after confirming the low comp. of course.
