2000 V70XC door lock pins/bezel area

Post by DrJammer »

Good morning, hope this is an easy one. In the manual it says to perform scheduled maintenance at XX miles and one of the things is greasing hinges, etc.

I will most likely use 3 in 1 for door hinges, hood latch, cargo hinge.

Some graphite into the key tumbler on the driver door.

I have noticed some dried up black smudges on the pins that go up and down on the doors. Is there a specific product to use on those to keep them sliding up and down smoothly?

I would not lube the door lock pins. They sit on a metal shaft attached to the door lock actuator.

If they really start having a hard time going up and down, unfortunately it's probably the lock actuator that's going out.

The door lock caps seem to be made of a pretty much OK plastic but the collar through top of the door panel is made of the typical Volvo self destructing plastic. I would avoid using anything that gets on that collar. I have had to replace most of the collars on my 70 series cars but the last time I tried to buy them I think they came up as No Longer Available.

I found the collars in ebay, if you search 39978890 they will come up in auction in all the various colors.

I bought my tan ones here, but when they arrived they were not Volvo oem; still better than none though!

I know on our '98, when the sun shines strongly on the drivers side, for whatever reason the drivers door lock pin will not go up or down the whole way. Yet, when it's cold out, it's fine. I ended up putting a small amount of silicone spray on the plastic pin & that solved the problem. (I know that goes against what most people do, but that was before I started coming on here) I was just in no position to buy a new door actuator... the rear gate one was bad enough to buy! lol
