2007 V70 850 Owner considering P2 V70
I've had an 850 and S70 for over 7 years... am aware of the normal stuff to look for in the 850s such as timing belt, PCV, etc. Is there anything specific to the p2 V70 besides the normal 850 stuff I should be on the lookout for? I've done timing belt and replaced all hoses on my 850 so I know what the work looks like. I am looking at a 2007 V70 with 90k miles on it but before I take a look I wanted to have some idea of additional things to look out for. Also, does anyone know if the AC on these is susceptible to issues like on the 850/S70 with the evaporator? I live in Texas and the car is for the wife so we need the AC working. Thanks.

This should be a good buy, it shouldn't have any particular issues. I'd be a good idea to replace the transmission fluid at one moment and had the transmission software reset. The a/c is pretty solid to my knowledge, sometimes the clutch plate will wear but adding some shims may fix the issue.
I can only add that in the ones with the light cream interior, the dashboard is reflecting on the windshield which is kind of annoying in daylight

Thank you that's very helpful. The v70 I am looking at has 90,000 miles on it. Assuming service has been kept up on this car is there a pretty major 100k mile service that is going to be due?

Here's my big mid-life V70 R service I did four years ago. Just ignore the bevel/diff/Haldex items.
Timing belt at 105k miles if memory serves.

I have a 2006 XC70, and other than the AWD stuff, the following issues have happened (car now has 75k miles).
- Ours seems to have a problem with rotors. 3 OE front set and a grind in 15k miles
- 2nd set of rear rotors following a grind 15k miles ago. Also found a parking brake shoe had separated the brake material from the metal.
- Watch for emissions issues. Have had to replace the emissions pump. Gas caps can also cause emissions leaks as seals dry out and crack.
- check front suspension control arm bushes, swaybar links, and top spring seats (there was a recall on these) and also spring condition. Have read of some coil springs snapping.
- Check service history. There seems to be a different set of rules in Canada for servicing than some info I have read for the US. Timing belt has a 10 year service interval or 80k miles.
Otherwise car has been fairly good, and goes in for TB change and water pump tomorrow.
Many people put a lot of miles on the P2's and seem to have little issue with them other than servicing.
Give the car a good check over, or get someone to do it for you, and you could have a great car. Check if it has a dealer service history, as they may give you a print out of it so you know what's been done.
Good luck,
Neil.

2-3 sets of rotors in 75k miles sounds really excessive, unless the car is used for track racing every other day, which I guess it's notscot850 wrote:I have a 2006 XC70, and other than the AWD stuff, the following issues have happened (car now has 75k miles).

There are two (actually three) possible causes
- a rotor can easily warp if all 5 wheel lugs don't have the same torque applied on them. This mostly happens because the place where the lugs seat on the alloy wheel become corroded and there is too much friction when tightening the lugs. the solution is to clean with a wire brush each lug-seat on the wheels until it's clean and shiny again.
- the brake calipers sliding bushing guide have not be serviced with the proper silicone grease causing the caliper to not slide easily when braking
- third cause is, well, when a garage says the rotors need changed because of few surface scratches. the rotors can tolerate about 1-2mm wear on each side. scratches don't affect braking quality.
One less expensive option is to look on Ebay for high quality non-oem brake discs and pads at a good price, perhaps cheaper than the parts sold by Volvo, and have them installed at a local garage

No that is not 3 sets of rotors in 75k miles, but 3 sets of rotors in 15k miles!!
The rotors were all warped and with exception of the first grind, I only paid for the first replacement with OE parts and fitted at the dealer. The wheels use the floating Volvo lug bolts, which I clean and lightly lube before fitment when changing winter to summer tires. Wheel when I fit are lightly tightened and then torqued by hand.
2 sets of OE rims used, rotor faces are cleaned and flat. Car is only serviced at dealer. New rotors are now at about 5k miles, but as my son uses the car now, I don't know if the problem has returned.
All front suspension has been re-built by the dealer, and also aligned.
