1998 S70 T5 -- white "goo" on dipstick

Post by mar601 »

I have some small blobs of a white gooey substance on my oil dipstick -- car runs fine, coolant level stays fine. I thought it may be coolant getting into the oil ? or not? what could this be? thanks.

Short trips are the culprit.

Avoid short trips (less than 7 miles).

Google: engine sludge to see some photos.

If everything else is ok...don't worry. It's condensation from frequent short trips in cold weather.

I'll be darn -- zero temps last week and I hardly drive more than 5 miles a day anymore. Had never seen it before but have never checked my oil in the dead of winter. Learn something everyday -- thank God, thought I may have had serious problems. --thanks

I just discovered that same goo today and thought that I had a more serious problem. My trip to work is only two miles + recent cold weather. Did a much longer day trip today and the goo is gone.
I knew that I'd find the answer here.
