1.6mm difference is nothing.

They must fit.Call someone to force the tailgate up a little more while you clip them in place.

A broom handle under tailgate will lift it enough; get creative.

I purchased some no name branded struts from eBay for my P2 XC70 and they had small removable steel wires built into them that made fittng them a cinch. However they are overpressurised and almost smack out a tooth every time they lift.

Those are security wires(clips)i mentioned in some previous post. They must be removed.

You can re-install them after you clip new struts in place.

Preowner replaced lift gate struts with non-OE ones. They lack the smooth end stop and I always slow the gate down manually not to damage the hinges etc.
But what I've noticed is the super low position of my lift gate in general. Full opened I can't stand underneath it without hunching. (1.80m height) Is that normal? The lift gate seems to hit its hinge end stops so I am kind of puzzled wether this is in spec or not or overall related to the gate struts or not. Annoying it is for sure
