It depends on how many miles on each. If you invested all that money in the 850 then maybe you should keep it and get rid of the technologically ancient and totally obsolete(not to mention far uglier) 240. Looks like your wagon is a turbo so the fun to drive factor is also night and day difference.

Keeping the 850 is no brainer IMO.

163k on the 850 and unknown on the 240 but it's probably over 200k. all your points are spot on, but ...

the simplicity of the 240 is actually among its strengths / draws for me, as is its low cost of ownership , and ... it's actually fun to drive too. the 850 is refined with gobs of power and the 240 has just has classic / great rwd road manners.

i do agree though that for most normal people going with the 850 would be a no brainer. i wonder what it's like to be normal?

I have the turbo sedan, with about 156000 miles. Those cars were built very simple, most things were mechanical with a simple emissions and vacuum system. As such they are the easiest car I've ever worked on and I've worked on many as an auto tech. The 240 is bullet proof in its own right but the 850 is more reliable than people think or give it credit and when something does break chances are you can get to it very easily. The AC and dashboard are a chore to work on, but the vital items to keep the car rolling are a walk in the park to do.
Long story short, the 850 is the last of the tank like Volvos and probably the best car they ever made.
