Finally got the VIDA working reasonably well. What I've noticed is that it is incredibly slow compared to the older 2005 version I have on the same computer running in XP mode. IS ther anything I can do to speed it up?
Thanks,
Neil.

my dice unit arrived today. it was pretty much plug-n-pray on the virtual machine running the image. it took a couple of minutes for the drivers to load and for vida to recognize the unit. it recognizes dice 206751.
i'm having a problem with the "interface". i run the dice diagnostic which comes on the image. there is about 5 different tests, led, comm, interface, etc. it passes all the test but the interface test. any insight on what causes a failure of this test?

let me preface this post by saying i appreciate the input by all, especially vtl and cn70. this is not a effort to disregard their insight. just an effort to see if there is a solution before buying a dedicated machine.
trying to get dice to work with the image. vtl has suggested using a dedicated machine vs. a vm and that the usb passthrough is not totally effective, i appreciate the insight and realize this is likely the ultimate solution. before springing for a dedicated machine, wanted to see if this issue has been resolved with the image.
i bought this dice unit as recommended by cn70 (he is also using a dedicated machine successfully). i am getting an interface failure (self diagnostic connector is not attached) when running the dice diagnostics, all the other tests pass (led, memory, communication). leds on the dice unit seem to function properly. this seems to be a common error. after extensive searching, here, swedespeed, volvo xc and the web in general, what i can't figure out is this an issue with my dice unit or an issue with using the image?
fwiw, the fw on the dice is 5.6.2. my host machine is a win7 home premium, with 8 gigs. vida seems to be running just fine on the virtual machine.
has anybody found a solution?

Go to Device Manager in System in the VM XP OS and look for the Dice device. If it's not there its a USB connection error. If it shows you have another of those faulty units that are so common from China. Interestingly your firmware is the correct one at 5.6.2 however CN90s is another version I haven't heard of.
This points to the seller using different suppliers.
I sold around 6-7 of these Vida Dice units on eBay as a seller and my supplier was Shenzhen Zeuss from AliExpress. I had zero problems with any of the sales. In fact I still speak regularly with 2 of my customers. Recently Ozark Lee purchased a unit from them on my recommendation and his is also working.

Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

thanks. i do show the dice hardware in the device manager of the virtual machine. it shows up as dice-206751@00000000000. checking the properties, it shows the manufacturer as setek ab. if i unplug the dice usb connection, it is removed from the device manager, plugging it back in, it appears in the device manager. so it seems as the virtual machine is recognizing it.precopster wrote:Go to Device Manager in System in the VM XP OS and look for the Dice device. Yep another one!! In fact that combination of faults has always led to a faulty unit from what I've seen here on MVS regardless of virtual or actual os.

i think i may have it working. it took a specific sequence in connecting to vehicle and vida.
1. started vida in the virtual machine
2. logged into vida
3. connected dice to vehicle
4. connected dice to computer
5. turned key to number 2 position
vida was able to read vehicle information. i was able to navigate to a couple of tabs and pull info. will check on the wife's car this afternoon with same sequence.
