2002 S60 Finally saw white smokey exhaust

Post by butthole »

Hi guys so I've posted here before about a mysterious coolant leak but now the signs are clearer than ever it's definitely an internal coolant leak.

-extremely rough start/lacks power on start (particularly when cold)
-sometimes have to crank it a couple times
-can lose 500ml+ of coolant in a 20min drive
-i've seen white smoke in exhaust twice
-cylinder 4,5 misfire codes (new coils, plugs)
-oil dipstick has burst off and I can also see an oil burst at rear of engine above transmission
-been losing coolant for months, misfiring for a shorter time but both are getting worse I think

Basically it's fugged but from that list can anyone guess if it's a head gasket, or cracked block or etc?

The poor bastard still drives great once it's going and according to temp guage it's never over heated but it still seems to be in it's final days (222,000km)

I just posted up a question with a similar issue on my '01 T5. I've been having this rough start after the car has sat overnight. Like yours, after the initial rough start it runs perfectly fine.

Did you ever pinpoint your issue/fix it?

Thanks.

These blocks rarely break, a head gasket is much more likely than a block problem.
