2004 V70 2.5t Headlight Outage

Post by psittner »

I've had this car about five years and just crossed 99k miles. Probably one of the more frustrating cars I have owned. Early on, it was bulb issues. Next, the front-passenger window went off the track. Then, the transmission started to get rough. I also had a trigger for my tail lights go out.

Now, I've got another light problem. Last night, I was running errands. After coming back, I noticed a couple cars flashing their brights when coming my way. My headlights BOTH went out. Great. I haven't had a chance to check the fuses yet, but will have to this evening after work. Any tips on which ones to check? I've read other forums stating that it's not always as easy as checking just a couple. There's also talk of a relay problem possible.

I'm not a repair guy, but if there's any way I can pinpoint and possibly make a fix on my own, I want to find it before I get charged a ridiculous sum by the local Volvo dealer.

Thanks in advance!

Do your high beams still work?

Check the fuse box under the hood on the driver side. The cover has the fuse labels.

It could be an odd coincidence that both lights went out at the same time. Check your bulbs.

If you have a volt meter you can check to see if there is power before but not after the relay.
