2000 V70R - Tailgate adjustment?

As I got no response to my original thread, I'll ask it a different and more specific request.

I've noticed the tailgate striker plate (lock brace in Volvo speak) is missing some of the sleeve that should be there to prevent the tailgate rattling (not bodging it, got a new one on order).

I believe part of the problem of creaking/groaning may be poor adjustment of the tailgate or the latch mechanism.

Even looking at Vadis (2 versions) I can't find any reference that I can find on how to adjust the position of the striker plate to check it is central relative to the latch (mine looks like it is sitting of to the LH side slightly). Also how far in or out should it sit? Far enough in that the tailgate just catches or a little looser? Do you loosen off the 2 rubber bump stops at the LH+RH lower edges before adjusting the striker plate and then adjust the stops after?

Many questions, but there must be a process for this that I can't find anywhere, or in the absence of that has anyone got a fool-proof method of how to adjust this correctly?

I think IPD (or one of the vendors) sells a kit to fix that specific problem. Apparently it is a common issue. I don't know where on the IPD site it might be. They have tons of stuff but it can be hard to find things there even when you know exactly what you are looking for,

Thanks Lee. Not sure what you were thinking of, as the only thing I could find on their web-site for tailgates was the inner panel repair clip kit and a seal (which didn't explain what it was).

I'm not sure I need any parts other than the striker plate, but it is how to adjust the tailgate for best fit I really need to get.

I've had to replace that plate on two wagons. After awhile it won't want to close if you leave it the way it is.

You can adjust the striker once you install it. Move it forward or back until it is where it needs to be

Got the same reply from the dealer foreman I know. He said there is no Volvo procedure for this repair. He said replace the new one in the same place as the old one, but in my case that won't work as the old one was mis-aligned. I'm still not 100% this is the cause. Next on the agenda is to pull all the floor panels out of the trunk area, and the spare wheel to see if that is where the noise is coming from if it is not the tailgate. Hard to pin=point when you are in the front driving!
