850 suddenly doesn't start

Post by kaneelschep »

Hi All.

I moved the car 5 meters to put in new tiles in my driveway. No problem.
Next day i want to put the car back. Engine turns over 3 times and battery is dead. Known problem. It needs to be replaced and it's cold.
So i hook it up to the vw transporter diesel. Enough power again, the starter cranks fast and willingly but the volvo does not start.
Charged the battery wih my smart charger. No start.
Took of fuel line. Fuel comes out nicely when turning the key.
how is it possible i start it one day but the next day it just wont.
It sounds like it almost wants to start but just doesnt.
What is the most logic to do now?

Thanks!

Take the plugs out and check them for good spark.

Before putting them back in, put about 10 ml of engine oil into each cylinder with a straw, then replace plugs. You might have "lawn mower syndrome"

The two things that often go on a high mileage Volvo are fuel pump relays and ignition switches (electrical part only)

So yesterday evening i followed the advice on the link i mentioned.
Took out the benzinepump fuse and started a few times.
Put the fuse back in and the car started immediately like always.
Thanks a lot for thinking with me!
It was exactly what you thought.
Lawnmower syndrome..

when i bought the car i read about that relais and bought a new one at the dealer ;) it was quite cheap.
I even replaced the wiring loom for it, since the old one was crusty and tired. Got that at a local volvo museum/enthousiast for 5 euro.

Thanks!

Oh by the way, my trusty t5 did only around 300000km. So not very high mileage. It did 30000km for me personally without any major issues or costs.
Just came back from a 3500km eurotrip through snow, icerain, fog and ice.

Nah :) thanks!
